E.O.T.O. Track Club Runs Nation's Second-Fastest 4x400 Relay - Heading To NBNO

Ka' Deem Wynn - Brandon Cachon (track profile) and his teammates of the E.O.T.O. Elite Track Club had no idea that in a little over three short minutes, they would catapult themselves to one of the nation's fastest 4x400m relay teams of the year.

The boys of E.O.T.O. Elite above, consisting of Tiondre Toomer (track profile), Tariq Evans (track profile), Brandon Cachon, and Jahquez Durham (track profile), ran a blistering 3:09.31 to grab second behind Miami Gardens Xpress (3:09.19) at the 40th Annual Golden South Classic, in Clermont, FL, on Saturday, May 28.

The boys are now among the best, and are ahead of Lancaster, now third in the nation, who ran 3:12.28. They're also one of only two teams to run under 3:10 this year.

In an exclusive interview with DyeStat Florida, the boys expressed that the goal was to get the Golden South Classic record (3:12.12 by American in 2014) and win while doing it.

“We accomplished one out of two so it is a blessing,” recalled Tariq Evans, who ran third leg for E.O.T.O. Elite.

Coach Tyrone Giscombe was in charge of prepping these boys for a big performance, and it seems that he got the job done.

“Well I wish I could take all of the credit but I can't,” he explained. “A few of our guys are trained by their high school coach and I train a few. As far as the summer goes, I send workouts to them and trust that they do them on their own, which most do. Then we meet up and we see who's really been putting in work or who's been slacking.”

It's clear, however, that none of these boys were slacking off. So when it came time to meet with Coach "T-Rone" to do some light speed work and a few tempo sessions, no one was off-beat.

Despite the loss so close to victory, the boys have their heads high knowing what they've accomplished.

“Feels good and we knew we had a special team,” said Brandon Cachon, who battled with MGX’s Tyrese Cooper on the anchor leg. “We just wanted to go out there and have some fun and run the best of our ability,”

That they certainly did. Coaches and athletes alike knew they were in great shape, but maybe not sub-3:10 shape.

With a possible national title now truly in sight, the boys prepare to train and get ready to gear up, probably for the last time, at New Balance Nationals Outdoor.

The boys all agree saying that winning a national title would mean the world to them, and it'd be a fantastic way to end such a long and illustrious high school career. As Cachon said, “We put E.O.T.O on the map.” Now it's time to show there's a reason why."

“We want the gold and nothing less,” the boys said.

It's unknown if MGX will put together a 4x400 relay at New Balance to challenge them, considering that they're the only team to run faster, but it can be guessed that whoever shows up will have to go head-to-head with E.O.T.O Elite Track Club, and they don't plan on letting a national title walk away so easily.
